Crochet Pattern: Mickey Mouse Ornament

I made a Mickey Mouse ornament last Thursday night to show off to the HR Director at work, since I had a Crochet Club review with him Friday morning. I forgot to bring the ornament to the meeting, but he was still impressed with the other stuff I brought.

So here is the pattern for this ornament. This is for the size in the featured image. You can always tweak it a bit to make it smaller or larger. I will include instructions on that as well.

MATERIALS

  • Crochet hook – size F
  • Medium weight yarn in BLACK, RED, and YELLOW
  • Stitch markers
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle

PATTERN

Gauge is not important as long as your tension is even and your stitches are fairly tight. My end product measures 8″ around for the body.

BODY

Rnd 1: Start with RED yarn, since it is easier to see the chains. Create a magic ring OR chain 2 and single crochet 6 into the 2nd chain from the hook. [6]

Rnd 2: Increase (2 sc) x6 [12]

Rnd 3: Increase (sc 1, 2 sc) x6 [18]

Rnd 4: Increase (sc 2, 2 sc) x6 [24]

Rnd 5: Increase (sc 3, 2 sc) x6 [30]

Rnd 6: Increase (sc 4, 2 sc) x6 [36]

Rnd 7: Sc 35. Sl st into the last chain. Ch 1. Turn. [36]

Rnd 8: Sc 35. Sl st into the last chain. Switch to BLACK yarn. Ch 1. Turn. [36]

Rnd 9-11: Sc 36 around. [36]

Rnd 10: Decrease (sc 4, sc2tog) x6 [30]

Rnd 11:  Decrease (sc 3, sc2tog) x6 [24]

Rnd 12: Decrease (sc 2, sc2tog) x6 [18]

Rnd 13: Decrease (sc 1, sc2tog) x6 [12]

Rnd 14: Decrease (sc2tog) x6 [6]. Fasten off.

Note: If you want to make a smaller ornament, just lower your increase rounds. For a bigger ornament, add more increase rounds. Just make sure it is a multiple of six–meaning, after Rnd 6, increase to 42, 48, 54, 60, etc.

EARS (make 2)

Use BLACK yarn. Repeat BODY Rnds 1-4. Fasten off. Leave a long tail to sew with later.

Note: Like the BODY, you can make this smaller or bigger as well.

BUTTONS (make 2)

Use YELLOW yarn. Create a magic ring [6]. Fasten off.

ASSEMBLY

Sew the ears on to the sides of the black part of the body. Since the buttons are so small, you can just use super glue to attach them to the red part. Add a chain of single crochets (I chained 50) if you want to hang it on your rear view mirror, etc.
